Hello!

I'm Olivia LaMothe, a Marriage & Family Therapist, Intern, and the owner of Transcend Counseling, PLLC. If you're here, there's a good chance you're carrying something — a relationship that feels stuck, a version of yourself you're trying to get back to, or a pattern you're finally ready to change. I built this practice to do one kind of work well: focused, unhurried therapy for people who are ready to actually deal with what's going on, not just manage it.

Why I became a therapist

I didn't come to this work in a straight line, and I think that's part of what makes me an exceptional therapist. Life had thrown enough at me that I needed real tools — not just to get through it, but to understand myself better while I figured out my next step. That search led me somewhere I'd always been a little curious about: what actually makes people tick.

Before therapy, I spent years in ministry, and even before that, I was drawn to people — how they think, connect, and get stuck. I studied psychology in undergrad, then spent several years in corporate administrative, marketing, and development roles. I got married, had a couple of kids, and somewhere in the middle of all that, it became impossible to ignore that I wanted work with more meaning behind it. In 2012, I went back to school for my master's in Marriage and Family Therapy — one of the best decisions I've ever made. I love what I do!

My professional life, approach and experience

As a student intern, I worked with children in school settings and facilitated outpatient therapy and support groups for survivors of domestic violence. In private practice, I've worked with teenagers, adults, couples, and families around trauma, stress, anxiety disorders, depression, mood disorders, self-esteem issues, eating disorders, adjustment issues, PTSD, conflict, relationship issues, and more.

Over the past several years, I've become more specialized in working with individuals and couples navigating relationship challenges, trauma, attachment wounds, and life transitions — which is where most of my work lives today.

I work from a blend of Emotionally Focused Therapy, Parts Work, and EMDR — three frameworks that draw seamlessly from attachment science, neurobiology, and somatic (body-based) interventions. In practice, that means we're not just talking about what's wrong; we're working with how your nervous system, your attachment patterns, and your history are actually showing up in your life and relationships right now.

I continue to pursue advanced training and consultation because I believe growth as a therapist requires both knowledge and humility. Lately that's meant a deep focus on couples work, layered with ongoing training in parts-based approaches and EMDR. Here's what that looks like right now:

What it's like to work with me

Clients often describe me as warm, direct, and easy to talk to. My goal is to create a space where you feel emotionally safe enough to explore difficult things, while also getting clear guidance toward meaningful change — not just a place to vent, but a place where things actually move. If you're looking for a therapist who's done real living — who's changed careers, raised kids, and rebuilt from scratch — and who also has the clinical training to back it up, we might be a good fit.
